Plasma Freak Out

Story Time...
Yesterday my friend convinced me that donating plasma is a fun way to give back... and make $40!!! So obviously it sounded like a good idea but at the time I had no idea it would take over 2 hours the first time and that my body couldn't handle it.

First off, I have to go though two interviews of medical background and what not which seems very important when donating something from your body! haha I wish I could've had a video camera so you could see the variety of people who were there. Anyway while I'm in my physical, an emergency (a girl passing out and falling to the ground) occurs and takes my doctor away so I'm sitting in his office for about 20 minutes with nothing to do. After he returns he's finishes his examination and clears me to go back. Here is were the exciting stuff comes in....

They seat me in a donating chair and begin to tell me what the process will be like, and I anxiously await the doctor to puncture my skin with a HUGE needle. He proceeds to do so and can't find my vain, so he literally moves it around in my arm with no luck. Another doctor comes and does the same thin, but still no luck. Finally a third doctor comes over, removes the needle and sticks me in the other arm. I thought the worst part was over. After I do one set, I begin to feel hot, weak, and like I'm about to faint. The room gets dark and my eyes close! When I open them, 5 staff members are surrounding my, fanning me, giving me water/ ice packs, and elevating my feet. I felt like an idiot to say the least. My symptoms went away and i began my next treatment when the exact same thing happens again!

HAHAHA
seriously so embarrassing! After my second incident they took my IV out and let me rest before I drove my friend and I home. Needless to say I think its in everyones best interest for me to not be a regular plasma donor!

  1. What a great story to have from now on though! And, at least now you know that giving plasma is not for you. I know how embarrassing that can be. I passed out once in a fish market and woke up laying on a table covered in fish guts with seven men standing over me tryign to figure out how to revive me. Definitely embarrassing, but at least now I have something to share when people ask for an embarrassing moment.

  2. I've heard about the plasma drive building, but haven't been over there yet. Guess I'm next for my embarrassing blood drive story.
